BOOKS AND RESOURCES - COMING SEPTEMBER 2010

Book cover

36 activities for 36 weeks of school.

Volume 1 will cover the first 18 weeks.

Differentiation of instruction for every activity K-6.

Never before has a mathematics book been able to truly support EVERY grade for EVERY activity.

Samples of lessons will be coming soon. Please let us know that you are interested in receiving some sample lessons and/or units when they become available. Thanks to all the teachers and schools who allowed Mathematics University to test the activities in their classrooms.

We committed at least 3 years worth of hands-on student based testing with each and every activity. The children decided the rules to most of the games. The teachers supplied us with ongoing updates to the testign results. We truly feel this is one of the greatest compilations of K-6 mathematical activities.

The purpose of the book is not just to supply activities that will inspire teachers to look beyond the basic traditional lesson, but to also do paradigm shifts and think like their students. We are hoping to get teachers to think about introducing lessons with engaging activities before delving into the abstract side of mathematics, through the use of actual equations.

Current research from mathematics such as 'Adding It Up' from the National Research Council have clearly stated that the best mathematics comes from engaging classrooms. Students in highly impoverished areas flourished on the NEAP test, using solid mathematics teaching that was surrounded by active and engaging lessons.

Mathematics University proudly supports the findings of 'Adding It Up'. Through the research results from them and other findings by the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics, we have created many of our lessons and activities. It is our mission to entice teachers to think differently about mathematical instruction and we hope this book will be the professional development tool that is needed to make the push in that direction.
