Matt McManus - Owner

In 1986, Matthew McManus made the greatest leap of faith when he decided to change careers and get involved with education. Through the years, he had acquired an incredible insight into what actually works in mathematics classrooms. He has taught every single grade from K-8 and understands the importance of vertically aligning mathematics.

Soon after receiving many teaching awards, Matthew began working with textbook publishers and learned about the process of curriculum development from the groundfloor. Rapidly becoming more interested in the increased need for the inquiry method of mathematics, he started to develop his own professional development company to offset some of the weaknesses in traditional mathematics series,

Matthew continues to help schools all across the United States. He has recently been keynote speaker in many math conferences in larger districts like Dekalb County, GA and Greenville, SC. He has also been selling out conferences in local venues, as he tries to take care of smaller counties with limited budgets.

To alleviate professional development costs, Mathematics University has been holding conferences off school-sites, thereby spreading costs among schools. Using this scenario, teachers attending can be used as the 'math coach' upon returning. Matthew has always been concerned about school funding issues and maintains reasonable costs per training.

Since coming back from South Korea on a mission to compare their schools to the U.S. military base schools, Matthew has become vigilant about making sure that teachers are better prepared mathematically. With a new found love for the American style of teaching and American schools, Matthew has been sharing his story and making many teachers see the benefit of engaging activities and inquiry methods of learning.

What's Working

“This workshop made me excited about teaching math again and I know it will be contagious in the classroom. I look forward to implementing the strategies and games as soon as I get back!.”
